Dominique Bertail

Dominique Bertail was born in Tours in 1972 and lived there up until his first years of high school, when he spent a small stint in Caen where he completed his baccaleuréat. He then spent two years at the Rennes Fine Arts Academy, and then three more in the comics workshop of the Fine Arts Academy in Angoulême (1992-1995). It was there that he met Thierry Smolderen, with whom he would later go on to publish L'Enfer des Pelgram (Delcourt, 1998 and 2000) and co-found the site (with Josepe and Navailles). He also met publisher Alain Beaulet, with whom he would publish L'Homme-Tableau (2000) and L'Homme-Nuit (2002). In 2004 he collaborated with the writer Matz to create, Shandy, un Anglais dans L'Empire (Delcourt, 2004 and 2006). In 2008, he again joined forces with Thierry Smolderen and, together, they created the Ghost money series (Dargaud, 2008-2015). When he isn't working on a series, Bertail does illustration for publications such as Je bouquine, along with regular collaborations with ‘Fluide glacial' and work on storyboards for television, animation, film and advertising. He has lived and worked in Paris since 1998, where he is represented by Arludik Gallery.
