Zerocalcare was born in 1983 and for the longest time has illustrated posters for hardcore punk concerts and published stories on xeroxed fanzines, especially within the Roman occupied spaces scene. He has collaborated with magazines of all kinds (most of which have been since terminated). He is a regular feature in the annual indie anthology Sherwood Comix, collaborates with the Smemoranda planner, has a monthly comics column on Wired and his blog, is among the most viewed in Italy.
