Author biography Ana Miralles

Ana Miralles, born in Madrid 1959, started her comic book and illustration career in 1982, when she had her first story published in the Spanish magazine, Rambla. She later went on to be published in the magazines Madriz, Cairo, Marca Acme, Blue Press, Marie-Claire Spain, Vogue Spain and Je Bouquine. Her first album, El brillo de una Mirada, scripted by Emilio Ruiz was published in black and white by Editions La General in 1990. It's the erotic story of a woman who describes a series of events during the filming of a TV advert in a hotel. This work was later put into color and republished in Spain by Editorial Casset, in France by Glénat with the title Corps à Corps, and in Italy by Blue Press. In 1991, the first volume of the Eva Medusa trilogy, Toi et Venin, scripted by Antonio Segura, was released by Glénat. The other two titles, Toi, le désir and Toi, l'amour came out in 1993 and 1994. This series was also distributed Spain, Germany, Wales and the USA. The story takes place in 1920s Brazil, mixing facts with magic, mythology and psychoanalysis. In a tale that initially centers on the contrast of two worlds: the ancestral and the civilized with magic and desire as catalytic elements. In collaboration with writer Emilio Ruiz, she did a comic book adaptation of Juan Eslava Galan's novel, A la recherche de la licorne, a work that received prizes in Spain, Portugal and Italy. It recounts the journey of the 1471 expedition party through the African continent in search of the legendary unicorn, with the aim of bringing back the horn to Henri IV de Castille in order to save his waning virility. The story develops over three albums released in 1997, 98 and 99, published by Glénat in France and Spain. A sensitive and highly productive author, her portfolio comprises a multitude of illustrated books, post cards, book and magazine covers, exhibitions, collective compilations, adverts, silkscreen prints etc. In 1996, Midons Publishing released a book of her black and white drawings, called Dossier AM. Other works difficult to categorize include her sketches of the costumes for the dance show Vianants in 1985, three story-boards, and a comic book based on Eugène Ionesco's play, Jeux de Massacre. Miralles is currently working in collaboration with writer Jean Dufaux on the Djinn series, published by Dargaud Benelux.
