This is a fictionalized biography of Pierre de Nolhac, the man who was Versailles Palace’s curator between 1892 and 1920. Before him, Versailles was a museum dedicated “to all the glories of France” as planned by Louis Philippe I, King of France between 1830 and 1848 - a hodge-podge of historical artefacts, commissioned paintings and reproductions, a museum that was largely ignored by the public by the time de Nolhac was hired as "conservation officer" in 1878.
