H. P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains Of Madness, vol 1 is written and drawn by Gou Tanabe. It's based on a story by H. P. Lovecraft. It's about a team of scientists who go on an expedition to Antarctica, where they come upon phenomenons that defy explanation. I wasn't totally impressed by this book. It's a slow burn that's a bit too slow for my taste. The dialogue is a bit stale and there's a lot of scientific language. It seems like the creator has been very faithful to the original in the way... En lire plus

I am a reasonably rabid Lovecraft fan. For me, this is the best, the purest comic book / manga adaptation of Lovecraft’s work that I have read to date - and I’ve read quite a few (my other favorites are Richard Corben’s Haunt of Horror, Boom! Studios’s Cthulhu Tales series, and Alberto Breccia’s Haunter in the Dark). Gou Tanabe doesn’t change the story, he just tells it. His style is carefully restrained, even photorealistic, his monsters are not just plausible but impressive - they feel… real.... En lire plus
